Do for one, what you wish you could do for everyone

Well I’ve taken the plunge & have set up a blog! This may sound kinda funny to some of you, but it’s a scary experience for someone like me. And yes I’m going to be honest here. But to write a blog that anyone & everyone can see & read is scary…..guess it goes back to being condemned for trying to do the Lord’s work. But you know what, I’m not going to let that stop me. Because I KNOW ……Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is HE that is within you, then he that is in the world. 1 John 4:4

And so we will claim God’s promises & move on.

Just this morning scrolling through facebook I came upon the above quote & thought it portrays perfectly our heart of ministry here in Haiti. Each human being is a soul God has created. And in my medical work I so much want to show these people Jesus. They come with their various maladi’s (sickness’s) & my goal is to get them real help, show them compassion & point them to Jesus the great physican.

Right now my medical work is mobile clinic’s & school healthcare. A while ago an American eye doctor here in Haiti, let me know he will be hosting a eye surgeon here in Haiti. So as I went on mobile clinic’s & I looked for those with eye problems. And oh my……there are hundreds. Anyway to make a long story short we have compiled a group. Last Friday Elwood & I took 4 people for consultations with Dr. Dennis Cowley at the Haiti Baptist Mission. 2 of the 4 are canidates for surgery. Both children. Now yesterday we took another group of 9. And 3 of the 9 will be having surgery. The others had eye examines & most were in need of glasses which they received.

I count it a very great blessing to be able to work with Dr. Cowley. Care & expertise like his is almost unheard of here in Haiti. Tuesday we will take 3 back to HBM for cataract surgery. Return home yet that night. They will spend the night here at our guest house, Wed. morning we will take them to Pierre Piyan hospital for the surgeon to check them to make sure everything is well. Plus we will take the 2 children for their surgeries. The 1 little boy has 1 eye that is crossed. So that will be corrected. Again we will return home, our patients staying here again, then Thursday returning to have check ups on Weds. surgery patients, plus 1 man will have a cataract removed from his other eye.

We want to ask you for your prayers……..

1. That they would see Jesus in all who treat & take care of them

2. That all the surgeries would be successful

3. For safety as we travel. It is almost a 5 hour drive 1 way to Haiti Baptist Mission. And we will be on the road 3 days this week.

4. That Elwood & I will have the health & strength we need. I will just add here…….I’m experiencing some issues with my bad ear. I have a long history of ear problems. But things have been well with my ears for a number of years. Just a few days ago my bad ear started popping & cracking, & now I getting drainage. The eye surgeon will look at it Tuesday & we will go from there.

I will be updating & posting pictures as our week progress’s
